New signing: Jordan de Souza

12 September 2018

MRM is delighted to announce the General Management of conductor Jordan de Souza.

30 year-old Canadian conductor Jordan de Souza is currently Erster Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper, Berlin.  Following a highly successful collaboration with director Barrie Kosky in a new production of Pelléas et Mélisande in 2017, he will join forces with him again in the forthcoming season for new productions of Candide and La Bohème. In 2017-18 Jordan conducted 28 performances of Kasper Holten’s highly successful new production of Carmen with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the Bregenzer Festspiele. Future seasons also see him make debuts at both the Staatstheater Hannover and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona.

This season on the concert platform Jordan will make his debut with the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy in Mozart and Mendelssohn. He will also return to the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal with a programme featuring Schumann and Sibelius.

Born in Toronto, Jordan studied conducting at McGill University, Montreal, during which time he made his conducting debut aged 20 with Bach St John Passion. He went on to conduct several major choral works including the St Matthew Passion, Christmas Oratorio, Mass in B-Minor, and Requiems of Verdi, Mozart, and Fauré. He made his debut with the Canadian Opera Company in 2015, conducting their Claus Guth production of Le nozze di Figaro, before moving to Berlin the following year to join the Komische Oper.
