Mark Padmore: Artist in Residence with Berliner Philharmoniker

13 September 2017

Tenor Mark Padmore takes up a new position this month as Artist in Residence with Berliner Philharmoniker for the 2017/2018 season. His longstanding relationship with the orchestra has included several momentous collaborations, and he will be particularly familiar to audiences as the Evangelist in Bach’s St. John and the St. Matthew Passion which caused a sensation in 2013 and 2014 in the staging by Peter Sellars. Featured performances during his residency will include Haydn’s Creation in the opening concert of the season, and Schumann’s secular oratorio Das Paradies and the Peri, in which Mark appears as the narrator. His versatility as a lieder singer also comes into its own with four chamber music concerts in which he appears with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, students of the Karajan Academy and musical guests, including Schubert’s great song cycle Winterreise with Kristian Bezuidenhout.
