Garry Walker returns to Opera North to conduct Gianni Schicchi and The Rite of Spring double bill

19 January 2019

Following his critically acclaimed world premiere of Sawer’s The Skating Rink for Garsington Opera, Garry Walker returns to the opera podium next month to conduct a double bill for Opera North in which the worlds of opera and dance collide: with Christopher Alden’s production of Puccini’s comic opera Gianni Schicchi paired with Stravinsky’s iconic ballet, The Rite of Spring.

Now in his second season as Chief Conductor of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Garry continues to propel the orchestra’s profile yet higher with evermore inventive programming and a string of starry international soloists.  Highlights include their recent Amsterdam Concertgebouw debut, paying homage to Garry’s heritage with a programme of Scottish-themed Bruch, Debussy, Grieg and Mendelssohn works.
