Katherine Broderick was the winner of the 2007 Kathleen Ferrier Award. She studied at the National Opera Studio and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and spent a year at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’ Leipzig. She was an English National Opera Harewood Artist and now studies with Anthony Roden.
This season Katherine returns to Opéra Orchestre national Montpellier for Ariadne Ariadne auf Naxos, makes her debut at Opéra national de Paris with Berta Il barbiere di Siviglia and gives recitals of Schubert Winterreise at the Oxford Lieder and Leeds Lieder festivals with Kathryn Stott and at Opera North with David Cowan. Last season she sang Leonore Fidelio for Garsington Opera in concert, recorded for BBC Radio 3, appeared with Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier as Alice Ford in a filmed new production of Falstaff and sang Mahler Rückert-Lieder with the Ulster Orchestra.
Other recent highlights include her highly successful debut with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra singing Brunnhilde Die Walküre with Jaap van Zweden, appearances with the Ulster Orchestra in Wesendonck Lieder conducted by Jac von Steen and the Oxford Lieder Festival with Sholto Kynoch as part of their successful ‘Tales of Beyond’ Festival.
For the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons Katherine was a member of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe Ensemble where she sang Sieglinde Die Walküre, Adriana Adriana Lecouvreur and Vitellia La Clemenza di Tito. She has also sung Brünnhilde Siegfried for Oper Leipzig, Helmwige, Woglinde and Brünnhilde Siegfried in Opera North’s Ring Cycle; Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw for Garsington Opera and Mrs Coyle in Britten Owen Wingrave for Opéra national de Lorraine.
A committed concert singer, Katherine appears regularly with leading symphony orchestras in the UK and abroad and made her debut with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Sir Simon Rattle singing Helmwige Die Walküre. She has also sung Strauss Vier letzte Lieder with the Ulster Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León and Wagner Wesendonck Lieder at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
