Stuart was a choral scholar at Christ Church, Oxford, studying Biological Sciences, before completing his training at the Royal Academy of Music in 2013 where he studied with Ryland Davies. He won second prizes at both the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and at the Hugo Wolf Competition in Stuttgart.

Concert highlights this season include St John Passion with Andrew Manze in Hannover; St Matthew Passion with Christoph Poppen in Cologne; Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Thomas Dausgaard; Mendelssohn Lobgesang with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Paul McCreesh; Martin Le Vin Herbé with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra and Daniel Reuss and Bruckner Te Deum with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
On the opera stage, forthcoming engagements include High Priest/ Abner/Amalekite/Doeg Saul in his Glyndebourne Festival debut; Don Ottavio Don Giovanni for Stuttgart Opera and Iro Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria for The Royal Opera at the Roundhouse. In 2018 he will make his debut at English National Opera.
Stuart has sung Messiah on tour with the Gabrieli Consort and Paul McCreesh, as well as with the Hallé, Bournemouth Symphony and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras; Purcell Dido and Aeneas with Trevor Pinnock at Wigmore Hall; Purcell The Fairy Queen with RIAS Kammerchor, Berlin and Rinaldo Alessandrini; Bach St John Passion on a European tour with OAE, as well as on tour with the Orchestra of the 18th Century and Daniel Reuss; Mozart Mass in C Minor with the Royal Northern Sinfonia; Bruckner Te Deum with Oper Stuttgart and Haydn Creation with the Ulster Orchestra. In the 16/17 season he gave a Britten and Vaughan Williams recital for Stuttgart Opera, made his Wigmore recital debut in their Schubert series with James Bailleau and appeared at the Oxford Lieder Festival with the Myrthen Ensemble.
He was a Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 2013, singing in a new chamber opera based on Britten Canticles, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski and during the 2013/14 season, Stuart joined the Stuttgart Opera Studio and performed the title role in Gluck Orphée et Eurydice, Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Gastone La Traviata, Abdallo Nabucco and Second Priest Die Zauberflöte. He is currently a Classical Opera Associate Artist with whom he has sung Osroa in JC Bach Adriano in Siria, Lucio Vero in Jommelli Il Vologeso and, in recordings, the title role in Mozart Il Sogno di Scipione and Soliman in Mozart Zaide. Other recent opera engagements include Jonathan in Handel Saul for Glyndebourne on Tour; High Priest/ Abner/Amalekite/Doeg Saul for Adelaide Festival and Alcesta in Cavalli Erismena for Aix-en-Provence Festival.
Stuart was a Samling scholar, and a past recipient of the Sybil Tutton Award administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
